Abstract:Objective To evaluate the accuracy and repeatability of AccuContour software apply to automatic delineation of organs
at risks (OARs) in head and neck, and to provide reference for clinical applications. Methods Ten nasopharyngeal carcinoma
patients who received radiotherapy in our hospital were selected. Firstly, two groups of 18 kinds of 26 OARs (RTs1 and RTs3)
were automatically delineated on AccuContour workstation twice. Then, by using Maestro software, the OARs of RTs1 group were
modified by senior radiologists according to CT-MR fusion images to obtain the OARs of RTs2. The accuracy of the automatic
delineation of RTs1 group was evaluated by comparing with the RTs2 group and the repeatability of the automatic delineation of RTs1
group was evaluated by comparing with the RTs3 group. The evaluation indicators included Hausdorff distance (HD), mean distance
to agreement (MDA), and Dice similarity coefficient (DSC). Results The OARs with the highest HD values between the RTs1 and
RTs2 groups was brain with a mean about 10.1 mm, of which less than 5 mm accounted for 73.1%. The OARs with the largest MDA
value was optic chiasm, with a mean about 1.0 mm. The OARs with the smallest DSC was optic chiasm, with a mean about 0.66,
and the remainder was all more than 0.85. Among them, 22 OARs had DSC greater than 0.9, accounting for 84.6%. The correlation
analysis showed that the HD had a moderate positive correlation with the volume of OARs (r=0.191, P<0.01), and the MDA and
DSC had no significant correlation with the volume of OARs (r=0.065, 0.029, P>0.05). The OARs of RTs1 group were consistent
with the RTs3 group in automatic delineation, with values of 0 for HD and MDA, and 1 for DSC. Conclusion AccuContour software
has high accuracy and good repeatability in the automatic delineation of head and neck OARs, which can reduce the workload of
radiologists and improve the working efficiency.
