Abstract:Objective To discuss the the application effect of Gemstone spectral CT scan (GSICT) in
postoperative examination of patients undergoing orthopedic surgery, and compare the difference in
imaging of the two methods. Methods 32 patients who received orthopedic treatment between May 2014
to March 2015 in our hospital were selected. Among the 34 patients, 20 patients underwent metal fracture
fixation, 12 patients underwent internal fixation of artificial joint. All the 34 patients received GSICT
scan. The GSIViewer software was used for the analysis of the scan results. Three-dimensional images
restructuring was carried out, metal artifact was removed. The images were then compared with the
images obtained from conventional CT scan. Results Compared with images obtained from conventional
CT scans, the GSICT has significantly better imaging quality: metal artifacts were significantly reducing,
the reduction of fractures and the repair effect of artificial joints and internal fixation were clearly
presented. Conclusion GSI CT scan at a high keV area can reduce beam-hardening artifacts and metal
implants artifacts. The 100~140 keV is the optimal imaging range. In the process of conducting the
postoperative imaging of the fine structures, imaging quality can be improved by taking full advantage of
the reasonable range of GSICT.
