An Automatic Estimation Method for Signal-to-Noise Ratio of Magnetic Resonance Equipment

Abstract:Objective To propose a method for calculating signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for MR quality control. Methods The Magphan
SMR 170 body model quality control image was collected, and the body model and signal leakage area were automatically separated,
and the air area was selected for SNR calculation with a maximization method. By collecting the test data of quality control activities
of 3.0T magnetic resonance within a year, and compared with the data of traditional methods. Results The mean and standard
deviation of this method was 1084±76. The traditional method were 1448±302. The mean and standard deviation calculated by
multiple measurements were 1305±126. By one-way ANOVA, the influence of three calculation methods on SNR calculation results
was statistically significant (F=10.957, P<0.001). The statistical standard deviation and numerical fluctuation of this method were
obviously lower than those of traditional methods. Conclusion This method avoids manual division of the region of interest and
can obtain more objective SNR evaluation results that are not affected by human error. This method is more suitable for medical
institutions to track the performance of magnetic resonance equipment.
