Comparative Study of STAR VIBE Sequence and TSE_T1WI Conventional Sequence in
Spinal Enhanced MRI on Image Quality

Abstract:Objective To explore the application value of STAR VIBE sequence in spinal enhanced MRI acquisition. Methods TSE
was selected according to the actual scanning sequence of spinal enhanced MRI, there were 34 cases in T1WI routine scanning
group and 34 cases in STAR VIBE scanning group, as 68 cases in total. The subjective evaluation was used or employed to score the
images of the two groups with the five-point method. The objective evaluation was employed or used to measure the signal to noise
ratio (SNR) and standard deviation (SD) of the images of the two groups respectively. The differences of subjective image score,
SNR and SD between the two groups were analyzed. Results The subjective evaluation of STAR VIBE sequence scan image
was (4.5±0.5) points, TSE-T1WI sequence images were basically (3±1) points, and the subjective scores of STAR VIBE sequence
group were higher than those of TSE_T1WI routine sequence group. The two doctors’ scores were consistent (Kappa values were 0.81
and 0.86). The SNR of STAR VIBE sequence group was 10.1~20.0, the SNR of TSE_T1WI group was 0.1~10.0. The SNR of STAR
VIBE scanning results was higher than that of TSE_T1WI group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). The SD of
vertebral body standard deviation in STAR VIBE group was mainly 0.1~20.0, the vertebral SD of TSE_T1WI group was more than
30.1, and the SD of vertebral body in STAR VIBE group was lower than that in TSE_T1WI group. The difference was statistically
significant (P<0.01). Conclusion In spinal enhanced MRI, the image quality of STAR VIBE sequence is better than TSE_T1WI
routine scanning sequence, and the vertebral structure and lesions show more clearly.
