Abstract:Objective According to the current status of microbial contamination and disinfection methods of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs), an external program-controlled automatic DUWLs disinfection device has been developed to solve the problem of automatic disinfection of DUWLs in hospitals to improve the safety of clinical oral water, ensure patient safety, and reduce the workload of medical staff. Methods On the premise of not changing the water, gas and circuit structure of the oral comprehensive treatment table, the automation of disinfection process and the proportion of various disinfectants was realized by program control. At the same time, the disinfection solution was injected into the pipelines of DUWLs by using the air source of the oral comprehensive treatment table, so as to inhibit the disinfection and the growth of bacteria in the narrow tubules of DUWLs. The changes in the total number of bacteria were compared by collecting water samples of DUWLs before and after disinfection. Results After the automatic DUWLs disinfection device was used to disinfect DUWLs, the results of high-speed mobile phone and mouthwash water samples showed that the total number of bacterial colonies in DUWLs was significantly reduced compared to disinfection before, meeting the water supply requirements. The difference between the data after disinfection and before disinfection is statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Using the DUWLs automatic disinfection device can effectively reduce the bacterial contamination of DUWLs and provide patients with safe clinical water, on the other hand, it is more convenient and comprehensive than traditional manual disinfection.
