Comparison of the Diagnostic Values of Ultrasonography and MRI for Placenta

Abstract:Objective To explore the diagnostic values of ultrasonography and MRI for placenta previa and placental implantation,
and to analyze their application value. Methods From January 2016 to December 2018, 63 pregnant women with placenta previa
(whether placenta accreta or not) who were examined by ultrasound and MRI in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively. The
results of the operation were used as the evaluation criteria for comparative analysis of the images. Results In the diagnosis of
placenta previa, ultrasonography misdiagnosis in 1 case of 63 cases, and MRI without misdiagnosis. A total of 16 cases were missed
diagnosis of MRI, and 8 cases of ultrasonography. The areas under the ROC curve was 0.857. The sensitivity of ultrasonography
(85.7%) was slightly higher than that of MRI (71.4%), while the specificity of MRI (100.0%) was higher than that of ultrasonography
(85.7%). The different location of the placenta analysis results showed that the ultrasonography diagnosis complete placenta previa of
anterior wall of the uterus, AUC was 0.935, significantly higher than that of MRI 0.870; while the MRI diagnosis complete placenta
previa of posterior wall of the uterus, AUC was 0.848, higher than that of ultrasonography 0.799. In terms of detection of placental
implantation, the accuracy rate of ultrasonography (81.0%) was higher than that of MRI (76.2%). Conclusion There is no significant
difference between ultrasonography and MRI in the diagnosis of placenta previa, and the accuracy of ultrasonography is slightly
higher than that of MRI in the detection of placenta accreta.
