Abstract:Objective To develop a method for morphological characterizing the 3D-printing porous surgical implants.
Methods Micro-CT was employed to get the image data of porous specimen, and MIMICS software was used to analyse the data
and realize 3D reconstruction. The porosity, pore diameter, and strut size of porous structure were analysed using internally tangent
circle, equivalent circle area method, and inscribed sphere method. The result difference between 2D and 3D images was analysed
and compared with the theoretical design parameters, and the results were validated by weight method. Results For regular porous
structure, inscribed sphere method could be used to analyse the pore size. For irregular porous structure, the internally tangent circle
and area of equivalent circle methods could be used. Conclusion Using Micro-CT plus MIMICS software is an effective method for
analysing the morphology characteristics of 3D-printing porous surgical implants.
