Abstract:Objective To study the ability of the electrical impedance scanning (EIS) system detecting the changes of breast cancer
tissues during the neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer. Methods A fine breast electrical impedance simulation model was
constructed to evaluate the ability of the system detecting changes in size and conductivity of the cancerous tissues during the
neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The fitting curves and regression equations were acquired by analyzing simulating data, and the indicators
were eventually obtained from the regression equations. Results The ability of the system detecting changes had a linear relationship
with both the size and the conductivity of the cancerous tissues. When the system’s detecting threshold value was 0.05, the smallest
detectable change of long-diameter of the cancerous tissue was 2.17 mm, and the least detectable conductivity’s change was 0.78 S/m.
Conclusion The EIS system enables sensitive detection of changes in size and conductivity of cancerous tissues, and the simulation
results can provide theoretical guidance for EIS application in the evaluation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer.
