Abstract:Objective To compare the influence of low dose iDose4 reconstruction algorithm and conventional dose FBP reconstruction
algorithm on the radiation dose and image quality of normal weight and overweight children’s chest CT examination; to compare and
analyze the difference between volume CT dose index (CTDIvol) and size-specific dose estimate (SSDE) in the evaluation of radiation
dose of overweight and normal weight children’s chest CT examination. Methods A total of 160 children were divided into two groups
A and B. Low dose scanning parameters were used in group A. The tube voltage was set to 100 kV for children weighing more than
40 kg, and 80 kV for children weighing less than 40 kg. The iDose4 algorithm was used to reconstruct the collected data. In group B,
routine CT scanning parameters were used. The tube voltage of children with more than 40 kg was 120 kV, and that of children with less
than 40 kg was 100 kV. CTDIvol and DLP were recorded in two groups of overweight and normal weight children respectively. On this
basis, SSDE and ED* were calculated and compared. Then CT image quality of two groups of overweight and normal weight children
was evaluated objectively and subjectively. Results The mean effective dose (2.0 mSv) of group A was 57.4% lower than that of group
B (4.7 mSv). The average SSDE of group A (5.6 mGy) decreased by 58.8% compared with group B (13.6 mGy). The SSDE was
84.5% higher than the CTDIvol in children aged 0 to 7, 43.2% higher than the CTDIvol in children aged 8 to 12, and no statistically
significant difference was found between the SSDE and the CTDIvol in children aged 13 to 16. The SSDE was 16.9% higher than
the CTDIvol in normal weight children aged 13 to 16, and 15.5% lower than the CTDIvol in overweight children. Conclusion On the
premise of meeting the diagnostic requirements, the low-dose scanning iDose4 reconstruction algorithm can reduce the radiation
dose of children with overweight or normal body weight when they carry out chest CT examination. Parameter SSDE can accurately
evaluate the radiation dose of children with different body types.
