Abstract：Objective To explore the role of key performance indicator (KPI) system in the management of medical equipment
in our hospital. Methods The 218 ECG monitor and 44 ear thermometer in our hospital were selected as study objects in 2016.
They were randomly divided into KPI group and routine group according to whether KPI was applied for management. ECG
monitor failure rate and ear thermometer self-treatment rate were set as key indicator, and regular supervision and evaluation
of the two groups were carried out. The results were summarized at the end of 2016. At the same time, the causes of equipment
failure and the satisfaction of equipment maintenance were investigated to explore the impact of the implementation of key
performance indicators on the maintenance and management of medical equipment in our hospital. Results In 2016, KPI group
ECG monitor failure rate (P=0.049) and reaction time (P=0.005) were significantly lower than the conventional group, and the
rate of self-repair of the ear thermometer was significantly higher than that of the conventional group (P=0.046). Comparing the
causes of equipment failure between the two groups, the improper use of KPI group was low (7.27%), while the improper use
of KPI group was high (18.47%). The maintenance satisfaction of the KPI group was significantly higher than the conventional
group (P=0.000). Conclusion Since the implementation of the key performance indicator method, our hospital medical
equipment maintenance management work has been significantly improved, and it is worth of further exploration and promotion.
