Objective To design a comfortable cushion with a blood leakage alarm device for dialysis patients in order to improve
the comfort degree of patients’ internal fistula side and reduce the incidence of blood leakage during dialysis treatment. Methods
The device included a limb comfortable cushion and a wireless calling bracelet. The limb comfortable cushion had a blood leakage
monitoring device. A beeping alarm on the wireless bracelet will occur, when the blood leakage occurs. From March 2016 to March
2017, a total of 120 dialysis patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 60 cases in observation group
and 60 cases in control group. During the treatment, the observation group applied our self-developed internal fistula side comfortable
cushion with blood leakage monitoring device, while the control group used the traditional internal fistula limb pad. The rates of
needle failure and blood leakage as well as patients’ satisfaction rate were compared between the two groups. Results The modified
internal fistula limb cushion with blood leakage monitoring device is convenient to use. The patients present lower rates of needle
failure and blood leakage, and have higher satisfaction rate in the observation group when compared with the control group (P<0.05).
Conclusion The design concept of dialysis comfortable cushion with blood leakage monitoring device meets the requirements for
the fixation and comfort of the internal fistula limbs in dialysis patients. Meanwhile, this device can montor various reasons-caused
blood leakage of the internal fistula limbs during the treatment, with increased safety and reduced workload of the nursing staff.
