Abstract:Objective To investigate the change of the default mode network (DMN) in acute brainstem infarction. Methods A total
of 26 cases of acute brainstem infarction (patients group) and 26 volunteers (control group) underwent resting state fMRI scans, and
functional connectivity was used to isolate DMN with posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) as the seed point. Two?sample t?test was
performed to compare the difference of DMN maps between patients group and control group. Results DMN maps were obtained in
the patients group and control group. The functional connection of patients group between the medial prefrontal cortex and PCC was
significantly reduced compared with the control group. Conclusion The decrease of functional connectivity between core nodes in
DMN in patients with acute brainstem infarction may be one of the causes of cognitive impairment.
