Abstract:A low power heart rate monitoring system was designed using a programmable system-on-a-chip (PSoC) microcontroller
as the core of heart rate acquisition terminal and a mobile phone as the intelligent terminal. Firstly, the pulse wave signal acquisition
and data processing were implemented on the PSoC microcontroller. Then, the processed data were transmitted to the intelligent
terminal by Bluetooth to realize the real time monitoring of heart rate. Based on the traditional threshold detection algorithm, a
modified algorithm was applied for the pulse wave signal preprocessing, in which the detection accuracy was improved by reducing
the special error of the heartbeat interval. The test results indicated that the detection rate of the modified algorithm was increased
by 1.59% than that of the threshold detection algorithm, and the average power consumption of heart rate acquisition terminal was
only about 40.6 mW. The designed heart rate monitoring system shows good practical values due to its good portability, low power
consumption and high detection precision.
