Abstract:The central aortic pressure has important significance in prediction and evaluation of cardiovascular diseases. However,
individual differences and the time-varying characteristics of human cardiovascular system couldn’t be taken into full account in
current noninvasive methods. This paper designed a noninvasive central aortic pressure monitoring system based on two peripheral
arterial pulse waves by assuming the human cardiovascular system as a kind of short-time invariant system. In the proposed
system, the central aortic pulse was dynamically reconstructed based on the Cross-Relation dual-channel blind identification
algorithm using two peripheral arterial blood pressures and pulse waves which were measured simultaneously by two cuffs. In
comparison with the clinical widely-used SphygmoCor system (AtCor, Australian), the error of aortic systolic and diastolic blood
pressure was (-1.8±5.6) mmHg and (-3.2±4.3) mmHg respectively, which was in consistent with the US AAMI standard and the
British BHS standard requirement. The noninvasive central aortic pressure monitoring system can individually measure the central
aortic pulse wave in an noninvasive way.
