Abstract:Objective To investigate the value of low field MRI in evaluating the therapeutic value of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in hysteromyoma. Methods The tumor sizes and signal features of 63 lesions of 48 patients with hysteromyoma examined by MRI before and after HIFU treatment were analyzed and compared. The myoma ablation rates and the tumor volume decreased rates were calculated. Results The tumor volumes before HIFU treatment, 24 h, 6 months and 12 months after HIFU treatment were (102.6±100.7) cm3, (76.2±76.0) cm3, (43.7±50.0) cm3 and (46.7±65.2) cm3 respectively, which indicated that there were significant differences among the tumor volumes of different treatment stages. The tumor volume decreased rates of 24 h, 6 months and 12 months after HIFU treatment were (25.2%±18.8%),(56.8%±21.5%) and (60.8%±41.3%), respectively, which indicated that there were significant differences among the tumor volume decreased rates of different treatment stages. The average myoma ablation rate which was linearly related to the tumor volume decreased rate of 12 months after HIFU treatment was (74.8%±18.8%). Conclusion The changes of forms, signals, and blood supplies of hysteromyoma after HIFU treatment can be reflected with low field MRI, which proved that low field MRI can be used in evaluating the therapeutic value of HIFU in hysteromyoma.
