Abstract:Objective We proposed an automatic preoperative path planning method based on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for
brain stem tumor surgery to effectively circumvent the important organizations and reduce the disability rate. Methods In this paper,
DTI and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were combined effectively for the automatic preoperative path planning of brain stem
tumor surgery. Firstly, DTI was corrected and registered with MRI. Then, the key region information of these two modal images was
extracted for automatically designing the surgical path with gravity repulsion model and spline interpolation. Results Our method
could complete automatic preoperative path planning through extracting the information of preoperative fiber bundle and tissue
structure. In additional, it could realize the path planning intuitively and maximize avoid important tissue damage. Conclusion
The proposed automatic preoperative path planning method based on the preoperative DTI can provide intuitive information for the
doctors to avoid important tissue damage.
