Research and Development of Surgical Instruments Made of Antibacterial Stainless Steel

Abstract:ObjectiveTo explore the research and development of surgical instruments made of and its feasibility of clinical application. Methods The copper-bearing martensite antibacterial stainless steel with intellectual property rights was used to manufacture the antibacterial surgical instruments. According to the related testing standards, the hardness, corrosion resistance and antibacterial performance of antibacterial instruments were evaluated.ResultsThe hardness of antibacterial stainless steel could reach 48-52 HRC, and the corrosion resistance evaluated by the boiling water test was grade A, all satisfied relevant industrial standards of surgical instruments. The antibacterial tests operated by the third-party inspection institution also indicated that all the antibacterial rates of antibacterial surgical instruments against staphylococcus aureus, escherichia coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa and salmonella aertrycke exceeded 99%, showing a broad-spectrum antibacterial effectiveness.ConclusionThe application of antibacterial stainless steel on surgical instruments can effectively reduce risk of bacterial infection.
