Abstract:Objective To discuss the repeatability of application of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in evaluation of mandibular anterior alveolar bone height measurement in adolescents with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion. Methods 66 cases of skeletal Class Ⅲ (male 32 and female 34) who were scanned by using CBCT were divided into 3 groups respectively according to different vertical facial types, with 21 patients in each group: 21 cases with low-angle skeleton malocclusion III, 21 cases with average-angle, 21 cases with high-angle. The measurement of heights of mandibular anterior alveolar bones was made and the data were analyzed statistically by using SPSS 19.0 software. Results Three groups of patients had no statistically significant difference in heights of the middle incisor alveolar bone. The heights of alveolar bones between mandibular central incisors and lateral incisors as well as those between mandibular lateral incisors and canine teeth had significant differences between low-angle and high-angle, average-angle and high-angle, P<0.05. Along with the bone surface increased, the alveolar bone height gradually reduced. Conclusion The CBCT images can demonstrate the three-dimensional relationships between booth and alveolar bone. CBCT shows good repeatability in measurement of alveolar bone height so as to provide guidance for clinical orthodontic scheme design and assessment and theoretical basis.
