Abstract:Objective To discuss the relationship between senile degenerative heart valve disease (SDHVD) and carotid atherosclerosis (CAS). Methods Altogether 93 cases of SDHVD patients and 50 cases of non-SDHVD patients were selected as Study Group and Control Group, respectively. Ultrasound was used for detection, comparison and analysis of different heart valve calci cation levels, carotid artery intima media thickness (IMT), plaque detection rate, carotid plaque score and percent lumen stenosis of two groups. Results The IMT, plaque detection rate and carotid plaque score of Study Group were higher than those of Control Group. And with the increase of the heart valve calci cation level, the IMT, plaque detection rate and carotid plaque score were also signi cantly increased. The carotid plaque score and percent lumen stenosis of Study Group were signi cantly higher than those of Control Group. Conclusion An obviously closed relationship was found between SDHVD and CAS.
