Abstract:Objective To study the changes in carotid artery intima-media thickness (CIMT) for young
obese patients with essential hypertension and to explore the weights of obesity and blood pressure
factors in vascular lesions among young population. Methods CIMT of Young Obese Hypertension
Group (40 cases), Young Normal Weight Hypertension Group (40 cases), Young Obese Normal Blood
Pressure Group (40 cases) and Control Group (40 cases) was measured by using high-resolution
ultrasonography. Results The thickening of CIMT of Young Obese Hypertension Group and Young
Normal Weight Hypertension Group was higher than that of Control Group, with statistically significant
difference respectively (P < 0.05). The thickening of CIMT of Young Obese Normal Blood Pressure Group
was higher than that of Control Group, with statistically significant difference (P>0.05). The thickening of
CIMT in each location of Young Obese Hypertension Group, Young Normal Weight Hypertension Group and
Young Obese Normal Blood Pressure Group was higher than that of Control Group. The thickening of CIMT
of Young Obese Hypertension Group was higher than that of Young Normal Weight Hypertension Group,
with statistically significant difference respectively (P<0.05).The statistically significant difference was
seen between the thickening ratio of CIMT of Young Obese Hypertension Group, Young Normal Weight
Hypertension Group and Young Obese Normal Blood Pressure Group (P<0.05). For patients with both
obesity and hypertension, an obvious correlation was found between obesity, hypertension and the
thickening of CIMT, with statistically significant difference (P<0.01). Conclusion Essential hypertension
and obesity among young people were closely related to CIMT, obesity and blood pressure factors had
obvious correlation with CIMT for young people.
