Preliminary Study about Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification in the Differential Diagnosis of Parotid Benign Nodules

Abstract:Objective To explore the value of virtual touch tissue quantification (VTQ) in the differential diagnosis of parotid benign nodules. Methods 56 patients with parotid benign nodules and 50 healthy volunteers (control group) were selected and examined by VTQ technology, and the shear wave velocity (SWV) were measured and compared. Results Among 56 patients, 27 cases were pleomorphic adenoma, 17 cases were adenolymphoma, 12 cases were reactive hyperplasia of lymph node. There were significant differences of SWV among three groups (all P<0.05). The SWV of pleomorphic adenoma and adenolymphoma group were both higher than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion VTQ can provide quantitative information about tissue stiffness which is useful for the differential diagnosis of the parotid benign nodules.
