Abstract:Objective To determine active breathing coordinator (ABC) and respiratory gating (RG) stability in particle therapy for
lung cancer. Methods A total of 40 cases of lung cancer using two techniques were selected, 20 cases used ABC and 20 cases used
RG. Comparison of tumor displacement values between scanning and reconstruction CT images in deep inspiration holding state and
positioning CT images in the same state for cases using ABC; RG was used to select average CT images in time phase reconstruction
from 20% at the end of expiratory breath to 20% at the beginning of inspiration. The tumor displacement values were compared with
the time reconstructed location CT images from 20% at the end of expiratory breath to 20% at the beginning of inspiratory, and the
data were analyzed by test. Results Using ABC and RG, the mean absolute error in the head and foot direction of tumor displacement
was (0.10±0.04) cm vs. (0.34±0.17) cm, P<0.001. The dispersion was (0.08±0.03) cm vs. (0.23±0.15) cm (P<0.001). The V95
dispersion of planning target volume was (1.95%±1.3%) vs. (0.61%±0.45%) (P=0.015). Conclusion In the particle therapy of
lung cancer, head/foot orientation stability using ABC is superior to gating technique, and ABC has more advantage in dosimetry.
