Study on Management of Ventilator Based on FMEA and PDCA Cycle

Abstract:Objective To explore the application value of failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) method and PDCA cycle
management method in improving ventilator reliability in our hospital. Methods The risk priority number (RPN) data of recent
two years (from December 2016 to November 2018, from March 2019 to February 2021) was analyzed by FMEA methods, and
the highest RPN of four fault types were selected. Using the PDCA cycle management methods of target setting, fish bone chart,
Plato and 5W1H, to set the target, analyze the reasons, find out the key influence factors and put forward countermeasures. Results
After the implementation of the management plan, the indexes of four critical types of faults affecting the reliability of the ventilator
reached the set target value. The frequency of failure was significantly lower than that before implementation, and the difference was
statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion By implementing the FMEA analysis method and PDCA cycle management method,
the ventilator reliability rate can be improved significantly.
