Abstract:Objective To determine the metrological characteristics of Calibration Specification for Multifunctional Blood Gas
Analyzers pCO2 and pO2 through comparative analysis. Methods According to the documents of the International Federation of
Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, a reference method for pCO2 and pO2 (gas tension method) was established. Based on
the gas tension method, 8 mainstream products including the blood gas analyzers from different manufacturers were compared for
pCO2 and pO2 values, and the results were judged and rationalized with tolerance values stipulated by different standards.
Results Select the CLIA’88 Proficiency Testing Regulations Related to Analytes and Acceptable Performance for pCO2 of ±5 mmHg
or ±8% (whichever is greater) and pO2 of ±15 mmHg or ±15% (whichever is greater) as the metrological characteristics was
more in line with the technical development status of domestic blood gas analyzers. Conclusion The metrological characteristics of
blood gas analyzer pCO2 and pO2 verified based on the analysis results of gas tension method can provide a useful reference for the
formulation of Calibration Specification for Multifunctional Blood Gas Analyzers, which can effectively promote the traceability and
standardization of the value of blood gas analyzer pCO2 and pO2.
