Abstract:Objective To analyze the positioning error of patients at different parts in clinical applications of Siemens IONTRIS
proton and heavy ion therapy equipment which provides better strategies and methods in image guidance. Methods A total of 45
patients who receiving proton heavy ion therapy in different parts with Siemens IONTRIS were selected. kV-level orthogonal X-ray
imaging equipment was used for image guidance. The manual and automatic registration positioning errors of each patient were
recorded. Results There was a statistical difference(P<0.05)between automatic and manual registration error in left and right
direction (lat) for head tumor丨 anterior and posterior direction (vert), isocentric (iso) and roll rotation direction for head and neck
tumor丨 lat, superior-inferior direction (long), vert and isocentric rotation direction (iso) for thorax tumor丨 long and roll direction for
abdominal tumor. Conclusion The registration accuracy of the automatic registration software for Siemens IONTRIS proton and
heavy ion therapy equipment varies greatly in different parts. The appropriate registration strategy should be selected according to
different tumor parts. It is recommended to use automatic registration first and then manually fine-tune the registration time for head
tumors, which can achieve both fast and accurate purposes.
