Abstract:Objective To propose a method for the detection of coagulation zones in microwave ablation based on ultrasound
backscatter information entropy imaging. Methods Microwave ablation experiment was carried out in 15 normal pig liver tissues
ex vivo (P=80 W, t=60 s). Ultrasonic backscatter signals were collected, and processed by a noise-assisted correlation algorithm.
The information entropy parameter value was calculated. After logarithmic compression and scan conversion, information entropy
imaging was performed. The coagulation zone was detected by using polynomial fitting technique to measure the long and short axis
of the profile of the pig liver, and the area was calculated to evaluate the accuracy of the algorithm. Results The difference between
coagulation zones and normal tissues could be seen in the information entropy image. The average detection accuracy of 15 cases was
87.42%. Conclusion The ultrasound backscatter information entropy imaging can detect the coagulation zone of microwave ablation.
