Abstract:Objective In order to solve the problem of caring for patients with dementia, we designed
a new type for old man positioning and movement monitoring system based on STM32L152 single
chip microcomputer and Android platform, so as to realize the remote monitoring for the old man.
Methods The monitoring system was composed of 3 parts, including a positioning device, a server, and
a monitoring-terminal mobile phone software. The positioning device was composed of the master chip
and GU620, which could collect the position and physical activity data of elderly and uploaded the data
to the server by 2G network. The server software, which was designed based on the PHP language and
MySQL, was used to receive and store the data that uploaded by the positioning device. The monitoringterminal
mobile phone software, which was developed under the integration environment of Android Studio,
was used to get, process and display the data of the server through the mobile network. Results This system
could realize abnormal alarm when the abnormal situation was found. And this process was accomplished
through the statistical analysis of elderly’s location and movement information. Conclusion The
experimental results showed that the designed system was stable, and the positioning and activity
monitoring functions was satisfactory. In addition, the instant messaging between the positioning device
and the monitoring terminal could be realized.
