Window Level in Localizing the End of PICC

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the value of bedside chest radiograph of PACS flip window width & window level in localizing the
end of peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICC). Methods With the methods of conventional window width & window
level and flip window width & window level, 2 radiologists evaluated the images of 84 patients with PICC bedside chest radiography
by conventional and flip window width & window methods. At the same time, the accuracy of PICC’s end localization was evaluated
one week after placing of PICC by using chest CT as standard. Results The effect of flip window width & window level bedside
chest radiography was better than that of conventional method in PICC’s end positioning (P<0.001, Kappa<0.4). Besides, the
consistency of fip window width & window level bedside chest radiography to the chest CT was high (P<0.001, Kappa>0.75).
Conclusion The flip window width & window level of the bedside chest radiograph on PACS has great value in PICC’s end
localization.
