Abstract:Objective To reveal the technological development through the analysis of invention patents in the field of global medical
sensors. Methods The invention patents of global medical sensors in the PatSnap database was the research object, and patent
analysis methods were used to reveal the development trends of the field of medical sensors from the perspectives of technological
development time trends, technological development life-cycle, technological hotspots, technological development countries/regions,
patentees in the world. Results There were 25554 invention patent applications in the field of global medical sensors. In the past ten
years, the technology development was active and in a period of rapid growth. Both the number of invention patent applications and
applicants showed a rapid increase. Technology development focused on pressure sensor, transducers, electrodes, control systems,
etc., among which pressure sensor and transducer were the technical directions with the most patent applications. China and the
U.S. were the most active countries, with the most technological development in the direction of pressure sensors and transducers,
respectively. Both Chinese and U.S. invention patents had been authorized at home and abroad. Less than 10% of Chinese invention
patents had been authorized abroad, mainly in the domestic market, and as many as 40% of U.S. invention patents had been
authorized abroad, with a wide range of overseas market layouts. Foreign technology development was dominated by enterprises.
And Philips, Medtronic, and Siemens leaded the global development of the medical sensor field. The technology development in
China was dominated by universities, and the enterprises such as Pins, Mindray and United Imaging were also actively carrying
out technological innovation. Conclusion Through the analysis of invention patents in the field of global medical sensors, this
research reveals the status and trends of technology development in this field, and provides information support for the research and
development of medical sensors from the perspective of intelligence.
