Abstract:High nitrogen nickel free stainless steel (HNNFSS) has begun to be used in clinic, which possesses excellent mechanical
properties, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Especially its strength is two times more than that of the conventional 316L stainless
steel, but this advantage is not fully used in optimization of the structure of the implant devices. In this paper, the effects of the changes
of hollow structure, including distribution, size, quantity of hole in HNNFSS bone plate on the biomechanical behavior of bone plates
was studied by means of finite element analysis, the result showed that the lightweight ratio increased gradually with the size of hole
diameter and the number of hole, and the resistance to bending was decreased. However, the stress distribution of bone plate tends to
uniformity during three point bending test. The lightweight ratio of high strength HNNFSS bone plate closed to 15% when used three
holes structure with 50% plate thickness as hole diameter. Based on our result, the clinic 316L plate and titanium plate can get about
10% lightweight and keep good bending properties when use the double hole structure with less 50% plate thickness as hole diameter.
