Abstract:Objective To understand the difference between the pressure and the flow velocity as well
as the trigger time of the NPB840 ventilator in different modes of positive-end expiratory pressure
(PEEP) under the suction pressure and the inspiratory flow. Methods Connect the FLUKE VT-Plus
flow analyzer series to the measured ventilator and then to the simulated lungs with the Norway active
system. Through the active simulation of lungs and patients’ spontaneous breathing, the analyzer
acquisited parameters and waveform from the ventilator triggered by spontaneous breathing. Results
Under the same mode of PEEP, the trigger for the inspiratory pressure is slightly higher than that of
the inspiratory flow. The flow rate of the same PEEP is greater than that of the inspiratory pressure.
When the PEEP is 0, the trigger time between the pressure and the flow rate is different. The time
difference decreased with the increase of PEEP value. When the PEEP is 15 cmH2O, the trigger time
between the inspiratory pressure and the flow rate is similar. Conclusion After testing the difference
between the pressure and the flow velocity, as well as the difference of the trigger time between the
inspiratory pressure and flow rate in the NPB840 ventilator under different modes of PEEP, it is proved
that the sensitivity of NPB840 ventilator under the flow mode is superior to that under the mode of of
inspiratory pressure.
