Abstract:Objective To compare the screening effect of infrared non-contact temperature monitoring method in febrile population
during the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic. Methods A total of 526 hospitalized patients during the COVID-19
epidemic from February 1st to 29th, 2020 were selected. Infrared non-contact thermometer was used to measure patients’ temperature
of forehead, neck and wrist respectively, and compared with the temperature of armpit measured by mercury thermometer.
Results The difference between infrared non-contact thermometer and mercury thermometer was statistically significant (P<0.01).
For 276 patients whose mercury thermometer temperature <37.3 ℃, there was no statistically significant difference in temperature
of 4 parts (P>0.05). However, for 194 patients whose mercury thermometer temperature ranged from 37.3 ℃ to 37.9 ℃, there was
statistically significant difference in temperature of 4 parts (P<0.05). For the 56 patients whose mercury thermometer temperature
was ≥38.0 ℃, the difference of body temperature in the 4 parts was statistically significant (P<0.05). The mean body temperature
in the 4 parts was compared, indicating the axillary temperature>neck temperature>forehead temperature>wrist temperature.
Conclusion Infrared non-contact thermometer is a fast, reliable, convenient, comfortable, accurate temperature measurement method.
There is no need to contact with human body, it has played an important role to prevent the spread of the epidemic. Reducing the use
of mercury thermometer can effectively prevent and control the harm caused by mercury pollution to human health and environment
