Abstract:Objective To study the influence of guarding ring on the edge effect of electric field in electrical impedance scanning (EIS), to provide the basis for the width design of guarding ring, and to provide operation guidance for clinical application of breast EIS. Methods Based on the EIS simulation model, the influence of the width of the guarding ring on the edge effect of the electric field in EIS detection was analyzed. Furthermore, the EIS phantom model was used to evaluate the influence of guarding ring on EIS imaging results under the condition of uniform background and the existence of disturbed target. On this basis, through the preliminary experiment of healthy breast, the influence of guarding ring on EIS measurement data was analyzed. Results When the width of the guarding ring is less than 5 mm or the contact with the measured body is uneven, the edge effect of the electric field has great influence on the EIS detection results| when the width of the guarding ring is more than 5 mm and the contact with the measured body is uniform, the edge effect on EIS imaging can be significantly suppressed. Conclusion The design of guarding ring width is an important factor in EIS detection electrode design. The optimized design can reduce the influence of electric field edge effect on EIS imaging results.
