Abstract:Objective To investigate the dosimetric verification of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) in head and neck
neoplasms using COMPASS 3D quality assurance system. Methods IMRT plan was performed on eight patients with head and neck
neoplasms. Dose verification of these IMRT plans was performed by using COMPASS system. Comparing analysis was conducted
on treatment planning system (TPS) dose and reconstruct dose measured by COMPASS system. Gamma pass rate and dose volume
histograms was analyzed. Results The Gamma pass rate was higher than 95% for target volume between TPS dose and reconstruct
dose. The difference of D99, Dmean, D1 for target volume between TPS dose and reconstruct dose was within 3%. The Gamma pass rate
of spinal cord and brain stem was higher than 95%, and the difference was within 10%. Conclusion COMPASS 3D dose verification
system can reconstruct the dose distribution in patient CT images and reflect the actual dose distribution in the region of interest,
which is a safe and reliable quality assurance tool.
