Abstract:Objective To analyze the change of performance of Varian Millennium-MLC before and after lubricant filming, including
the PWM of each leaf’s driving motor and failures. Methods Lubricant filming was performed on a Millennium-MLC carriage,
PWM of each leaf’s motor was tested and recorded before and after lubricant filming. failure frequency of six months for multi-leaf
collimator before and after lubricant filming was collected. Results The average PWM of all leaves decreased 13% and 9.7% for side
A and side B, respectively. Number of leaves which maximum PWM between 8 and 10 increased 30%, and none of them exceed 16.
Six months failures decreased 61.5%. Conclusion Lubricant filming on Millennium-MLC reduces movement friction of leaves and
MLC failures significantly. Therefore, the purpose of reducing downtime during treatment is achieved.
