Abstract:Objective To assess the diagnostic value of dual source CT in double compression type iliac vein compression syndrome.
Methods The CT and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) data of 31 cases with iliac vein compression syndrom were analyzed
retrospectively. Dual source CT examination was performed by dual energy scanning and automatic current tracking technology.
Single compression type and double compression type of the iliac vein compression were evaluated respectively in order to observe
the performance of CT and DSA in double compression subjects and to compare the two imaging features. Results In 31 cases of
subjects, the proportions of single compression type and double compression type were 67.7% (n=21) and 32.3% (n=10) respectively.
The average diameter of the left common iliac vein at the maximum compression was (3.21±1.06) mm in single compression type,
and (2.91±1.39) mm in double compression type. There was no significant difference between the two groups. There were two
manifested forms for double compression type: one was the long section of compression along the superior left common iliac vein,
the other was the longitudinal compression of the proximal external iliac vein opening. The compression ratios were not different
between the two groups (P=0.57). Conclusion Double compression type iliac vein compression syndrome is not uncommon. CT
angiography is of great value in its diagnosis.
