Abstract:Objective This study aimed to research the variability of radial-artery and fingertip pulse
wave transit time (rf-PWTT) during exercise and recovery. Methods Ten healthy young volunteers
were enrolled in this study to perform bicycle ergometer exercise test, with their electrocardiogram,
radial artery pressure pulse waves and fingertip photo plethysmography being gathered synchronously.
Parameters of radial artery pulse transit time (r-PWTT), fingertip pulse wave transit time (f-PWTT), rf-
PWTT and R-R interval (RRI) were extracted, and the situations of these PWTTs change with RRI were
analyzed. Results The results indicated that the trend of r-PWTT and f-PWTT with RRI were basically
identical, but rf-PWTT had no obvious trend in the process of the whole movement. Moreover, the data
also revealed when RRI was the same on the period of exercise or recovery, r-PWTT and f-PWTT during
exercise were higher than the two PWTTs during recovery. However, rf-PWTT had no such phenomenon.
There was no significant difference during exercise or recovery. Conclusion Both r-PWTT and f-PWTT
had the same trend with RRI. Compared with before exercise, the r-PWTT and f-PWTT under the same
RRI increased after exercise. However, there was no significant effect of pedaling exercise on radialartery
to finger pulse.
