Abstract:Objective To investigate the use value of inner ear liquid Magnetic Resonance Imaging
(MRI) in the clinical diagnosis of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Methods Seventyeight
patients, who were treated in our hospital from April 2014 to July 2015, were examined by high
resolution Computed Tomography (CT) of temporal bone and inner ear liquid MRI respectively, so as
to observe and compare the diagnostic value of such two methods. Results High resolution CT showed
the otolith detachment, semicircular canal involvement as well as ossicles damage and disappearance
in 51 patients with the total positive rate of 65.38%. Meanwhile, inner ear liquid MRI found otolith
detachment, semicircular canal degeneration, semicircular canal rupture and epithelium thinning in crista
ampulla and so on in 71 patients with the total positive rate of 89.75%. Thus the total positive rate of high
resolution CT was significantly lower than that of inner ear liquid MRI, and the difference was significant
(P <0.01). Conclusion Compared with high resolution CT, the detection rate of inner ear liquid MRI was
higher in the clinical diagnosis of BPPV, which could be used as a beneficial basis for clinical evaluation of
the patient’s condition as well as choice of treatment plan, and is also worth further promotion in clinic.
