Abstract:The silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) is a photoelectric detector emerging in recent years
and used in nuclear medicine imaging systems. It has a huge potential to substitute the traditional
Photomultipliers (PMT) due to its smaller size, lower working bias voltage and magnet compatible, etc.
This paper introduced the relevant theories about SiPM firstly. Then, the SiPM production process were
emphasized in detail, and the characteristic as well as performance of different production process was
discussed subsequently. Furthermore, different kinds of front-end readout ASIC (Application Specific
Integrated Circuits) for SiPM, which were designed for different use, together with their electronic
performance were enumerated. Finally, the application of SiPM in PET, PET/MR was demonstrated and
future development of SiPM was also discussed.
