Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of 275 nm ultraviolet C (UVC) light irradiation on the survival and growth of skin cells
and vascular endothelial cells, as well as the effects of long-term and short-term irradiation on the skin of nude mice, and to identify
its safety. Methods Human immortalized keratinocytes cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells were irradiated with 275 nm
UVC-LED light source developed, designed and processed by the laboratory for different durations to observe the effects of different
irradiation dosages on the survival and growth of the cells; the nude mice skin was irradiated for different durations to observe
changes in the appearance of the skin, and tissues of irradiated areas were collected for immunohistochemical analysis. Results For
low doses of direct irradiation of cells, 275 nm UVC light had certain skin-related cell safety. However, the high dose of 275 nm
UVC light irradiation caused more damage to the cells. Meanwhile, neither low-dose nor high-dose irradiation of 275 nm UVC light
induced DNA and epidermal damage in nude mice skin. Conclusion The 275 nm UVC light has been identified as promising for
clinical applications, and is relatively safe for the skin.
