Abstract:Heart sounds are series of acoustic vibrations generated by the interaction between heart and heart dynamics. From the viewpoint of mechanism of heart sound generation, there must be relations between heart sound features and heart dynamics. This makes it possible to monitor the variations of cardiac functions by heart sound features. This paper presents five heart sound features that are summarized from previous studies. The algorithms to extract the features are implemented in a hardware platform to monitor heart sound in real-time from subjects. The results show that the features can reflect the variations of cardiac function.
