Abstract:Objective To explore the changing trend of sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic
nervous system with the changing of mental stress, this process was accomplished by studying the
relationship between heart rate variability parameters and mental workload in healthy adult males.
Methods First, a mental stress experiment system was designed based on N-BACK experimental
paradigm. Second, the mental stress test was performed on 30 male college graduate to acquire ECG
signal under different mental stress level. Then the heart rate variability of ECG was analyzed. Results
The calculation results showed that RMSSD as well as SDNN in time domain and the high frequency
power components in frequency domain were decreased with the increasing of mental stress. Conclusion
This study has reference value for the assessment of autonomic nervous system state and mental stress.
