Abstract:Objective To evaluate the CT (Computed Tomography) technology maturity on the basis of evolution patterns and S-curve forecasting tools in TRIZ theories so as to propose suggestions for the time of CT procurement. Methods The study made a comprehensive review of TRL-based, patent-based and literature-based technology maturity evaluation methods through literature search and review. It also took the patent measurement as an example to divide the life cycle of CT and evaluate its technology maturity. Results According to the patent number - time curve, CT was currently in the growth stage. And the S-curve of a single technology could constitute the S-curve of a whole technology in certain category via transitions. The ranking of patent applicants could be used to determine the situation of marketing competition. The study indicated that most CT suppliers used the skimming pricing decisions. Conclusion Through verification of the technical features of the first to the fifth generation CT, the patent measurement proved its effectiveness in technology maturity evaluation. And its result was helpful for various medical institutes to make a choice of the best and performance/price-balanced procurement time that were suitable for their development planning.
