Abstract:Objective To explore the MRI features of top of the basilar artery syndrome (TOBS). Methods MRI and MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) image data of 12 TOBS patients who had been clinically confirmed were analyzed. Results The multiple lesions involving multiple brain regions were found in all 12 cases on MRI images. Except for the lesions of two cases found only on DWI, the lesions of the remaining 10 cases were slightly low signals on T1WI and slightly high signals on T2WI and FLAIR. All lesions of 12 cases showed high signals on DWI. The vascular morphology and signal changes of TOBS were displayed to different extent on MRA images. Conclusion TOBS had certain characteristics in MRI performance. Its main characteristics were the multiple lesions and the symmetrical involvement of the bilateral brain regions. Combined application of clinical manifestations and MRI can provide foundations for early diagnosis of TOBS.
