Abstract：Objective To compare the effectiveness of the application of TVS (Transvaginal Ultrasonography) and TUS (Transabdominal Ultrasonography) in monitoring of follicular development. Methods The clinical data of 112 cases of infertility patients who had been treated from February 2013 to January 2014 in the hospital were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients had undergone TVS and TUS in order to compare the monitoring results of follicular development. Results TVS revealed 127 mature follicles, 976 small follicles, 34 cumulus oophorus and 208 ovaries; while TUS displayed 120 mature follicles, 552 small follicles, 10 cumulus oophorus and 203 ovaries. TVS demonstrated its advantages over TUS in monitoring of small follicles and cumulus oophorus, which were statistically significant differences between two methodologies (P<0.05). No statistical significance existed between TVS and TUS in monitoring of mature follicles and ovaries (P>0.05). The average thickness of endometrium and diameter of ovulated follicles revealed by TVS were (8.13 ± 1.92) mm and (21.60 ± 3.16) mm versus TUS’s (8.09 ± 1.87) mm and (21.47 ± 3.09) mm without statistically significance (P>0.05). Conclusion TVS has proven its overwhelming advantages over TUS in monitoring of small follicles and cumulus oophorus, which can better assess the functional status of the and contribute to the treatment of infertility.
