Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical effect of β-ray radiotherapy for patients after ocular malignant tumor resection. Methods Clinical data about the first-time β-ray radiotherapy of 14 patients who had received ocular malignant tumor resection in our department from March 2008 to February 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Clinical effect of β-ray radiotherapy was observed during the follow-up visits for these patients. Results All patients had finished β-ray radiotherapy successfully. During the follow-up visits, 13 patients were still alive and one patient died. The one-year, two-year and three-year survival rates of patients after radiotherapy were 100%, 100% and 92.8%, respectively. Grade-I acute radiation reaction occurred in 12 patients and grade-II acute radiation reaction occurred in 5 patients as well as mild photophobia occurred in 4 patients, while tear secretion of 4 patients decreased significantly and eyesight of one patient decreased slightly during β-ray radiotherapy. Grade-I radioactive skin injury occurred in 5 patients after β-ray radiotherapy. Radioactive keratitis and corneal ulcer were not found in all patients. Conclusion The local control rates, survival rates and life qualities of patients with ocular malignant tumors have been improved after β-ray radiotherapy.
