Abstract:Objective To explore the performance characteristics of different radio-frequency coils including 12-units head matrix coil, 12-units abdominal coil and the general body coil in MRI. Methods According to the detection standard recommended by American college of radiology (ACR), to measure and compare signal to noise ratio (SNR), percent integral uniformity (PIU) and percent signal ghosting (PSG) of MRI images obtained through the three radio-frequency coils based on ACR phantom. Results When the scanning sequence is SE-T1WI, SNR of MRI images obtained through 12-units head matrix coil, 12-units abdominal coil is 16.41 times and 14.1 times as high as that of the general body coil. When the scanning sequence is double SE - T2WI, SNR of MRI images obtained through 12-units head matrix coil, 12-units abdominal coil is 6.31 times and 5.35 times as high as that of the general body coil. PIU of the general body coil is better than that of 12-units head matrix coil and 12-units abdominal coil, while PIU of 12-units head matrix coil can’t meet the standard requirements. PSG of 12-units head matrix coil is lower than that of 12-units abdominal coil and the general body coil, while PSG of all coils can meet the standard requirements of head coils. Conclusion Each radio-frequency coil owns characteristic advantages, which indicates that they should be applied in MRI according to different clinical requirements.
