Design and Application of Closed Loop Management System for Laboratory Specimens
Based on Whole Process Monitoring

Abstract:Objective To standardize the original specimen management process in the hospital, to design a closed loop management
system for laboratory specimens with fine management based on information technology, so as to ensure the whole process
monitoring of specimens, and improve the medical quality and the overall management level of the hospital. Methods The C/S
architecture and SQLSERVER database were adopted to realize the interaction between laboratory information management system
and hospital information system, blood calling system, personal digital assistant to construct a closed-loop management platform
for the intercommunication of numerous medical data. Before the closed-loop management was implemented in our hospital in May
2022, a total of 98164 outpatient samples from the inspection window and 97464 inpatient specimens received was as the control
group; after the closed-loop management was implemented in our hospital in June 2022, a total of 92083 clinic specimens blooded
from the inspection window and 84028 inpatient specimens received was as the observation group. The collection rate, charge rate,
delivery rate, and turn around time (TAT) status of the two groups of specimens were compared, and SPSS 19.0 software was used for
statistical analysis. Results The collection rate, charge rate and delivery rate of the observation group were significantly higher than
those of the control group, which increased from 60% to more than 90%, and the effect of closed-loop management of specimens was
significantly better than before (all P<0.01). The average TAT of all specimens, the average TAT of specimens with TAT≤60 min and
the number of specimens before and after closed-loop managemen were compared, and the differences were statistically significant
(P<0.01). Conclusion The whole process of the closed loop management system of laboratory specimens improves the medical
quality of each link of the inspection, optimizes the TAT, makes the management of specimens more standardized, and has certain
reference significance for the closed loop management of specimens in other hospitals.
