Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of traditional alert algorithm and optimizationalgorithm in reducing the number of
intensive care unit (ICU) alerts and improving the quality of alerts. Methods The clinical monitoring data were collected from
the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, from May 29 to September 2, 2021.
A single parameter was utilized to in the traditional algorithm. When the data collected by the monitor exceeded the set range, an
alert would be issued. The optimization algorithm included multi-lead ECG analysis, multi-parameter fusion analysis, intelligent
threshold reminder, and original alert (alert delay and refractory period technology) strategy. The alert numbers generated by the
two algorithms were compared. Further more, the alert numbers for different beds and different time periods after the optimization
algorithm were analyzed. Results The total number of alerts generated from optimized algorithm was 216337, 331550 for traditional
algorithm, with an overall optimization rate of 34.75%. With the optimization algorithm, the alert distribution of each bed element
was more uniform than that of the traditional algorithm (P<0.05). The optimal alert rate in night time was significantly higher than
that of in day time (36.62%±1.55% vs. 33.59%±2.07%, P<0.05). Conclusion The alert number from ICU monitoring data was
tremendous. With the optimized algorithm, the alert number was significantly reduced and the alert distribution of each bed element
was more uniform than that of the traditional algorithm. The optimal alert rate in night time was significantly higher than that of in
day time.
