Abstract:Objective To analyze the accuracy of three types of softwares: AccuContour, rtStation and PV-iCurve for the autosegmentation
of organs at risk in the nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods A total of 30 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma
were randomly selected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. The organs at risk were
manually segmented by the same doctor firstly, then three types of softwares were used for automatic segmentation. Taking manual
segmentation as the “gold standard”, the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and Hausdorff distance (HD) were calculated, the accuracy
of three softwares in delineation of organs at risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma were compared. Results For the selected 14 organs at
risk, the DSC of most organs automatically segmented by three softwares were greater than 0.7. In the optic chiasma and oral cavity,
the segmentation of rtStation was the best. AccuContour had obvious advantage in other organs. Compared with PV-iCurve, rtStation
was superior to PV-iCurve in all organs at risk except spinal cord and optic chiasm and had statistically significant differences (P<0.05).
Compared with the contour results of rtStation, the HD of AccuContour left ophthalm osphere, left crystal, left optic nerve, spinal
cord and left temporal lobe were significantly lower than those of rtStation (P<0.05). For optic chiasma and oral cavity, rtStation was
significantly better than AccuContour (P<0.05). Compared with PV-iCurve, the HD of AccuContour was higher than PV-iCurve only
in the optic chiasma and oral region, and the HD of AccuContour was lower than PV-iCurve in all other 12 organs. Compared with
PV-iCurve, the HD of rtStation was lower than that of PV-iCurve, and except for the optic chiasma organ, the difference between the
other 13 organs were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Each of the three automatic segmentation software has its own
advantages, but in clinical practice AccuContour was the most effective in overall contouring results, followed by rtStation.
